People watching

collsdurham

One bar. One restaurant. One ice cream shop. And of course one beach. That is all there really is when it comes to the beach town my family annually travels to. I love it there. In my personal opinion it is one of the few places I consider to be 100% flawless.

On our trip this year, the nights where we had no plans my sister Claire and I would walk barefoot to the single strip of stores. Once there, we would make our way to the picnic tables across the street and sit. Just sit. There was something so beautiful in doing this. No phones. No distractions. Just God's beautiful creations. Being the observer I am there are quite a few details I reflected on from these nights.

We are all on our own journey.

The ice cream stand never had an empty line. Full of people at all times it made for a great people watching point. Consistent lines and lines of people. So many humans I had just seen for the first and most likely last time. This may sound weird but do you ever forget people live lives without you in it? Super self-centered of me to say out loud but isn't that just strange? What if we treated each other with this in mind? We all are going through something different. This could be the best day of your life but the worst for the person eating ice cream next to you. Lets love our neighbors because we are all on our own unique journey and God loves us all the same!

Music is a beautiful thing.

Sometimes it is really hard to find commonalities between different types of people. How could someone like me have anything in common with an 80 year old man? Well music is how. It brings people together. I'll tell you people of all ages, demographics, and different backgrounds know the words to Sweet Caroline. The sound of all kinds of voices (good and bad) sharing a single moment made my ice cream taste a whole lot sweeter. Give music the respect it deserves it truly is an amazing blessing.

Ice cream makes everything better.

I thank God everyday I am not lactose intolerant. Sorry if you are:(

Look both ways.

Yes that's a metaphor. Essentially I'm reminding you to look up from your device or any other distraction that may take you away from this moment. Life is so interesting when you just watch it. Don't miss out on the chapters of your own life being too focused on those in your digital reality.

Don't take it for granted.

You know that one quote, "the best things in life don't come free?" I agree with that to an extent. Knowing that sitting on the curb with Claire cost nothing easily debunked this quote. This sister specifically lives approximately 1,066 miles away from me and I think about these nights a lot. Each day is a blessing and although we are imperfect humans God loves us just the same. Don't take that for granted:)

I encourage you to watch people when you get the chance. Just look at what God is doing in other peoples lives, you may find that it is a pretty humbling experience.
