There is no better way to begin this post than by addressing the reality that I have recently struggled to sit down and write. Not because I don't want to, but rather I've felt uninspired--at a loss of ideas worth sharing.
I have always intended for this blog be a direct reflection of the lessons I am learning as I navigate life. This intention remains true, however, I don't want to write just for the sake of writing. I want my words to be intentional and meaningful.
With that being said, I have been frustrated by my brains lack of creativity. Nothing has been coming to me and quite frankly I'm sick of waiting for ideas to hit me.
Although this struggle may seem small and rather insignificant in the grand scheme of things, it led me to consider what God might be teaching me through this writers block. Then it hit me, that IS the post I've been searching for.
Today I want to give you some reminders if you are in a season of waiting.
FLOWERS DON'T GROW OVERNIGHT
My dad is a talented gardener, and over the years I have watched him plant seeds with patience and care. In all this time, I have yet to see him plant a seed that has grown overnight. Gardening requires time, attention, and--you guessed it--waiting.
If it wasn't for the waiting we'd never get to taste the sweet tomatoes on our morning toast. If it wasn't for the waiting we'd never get to admire the wide array of colors that make up the flowers behind our home. Above all though, without the waiting we'd never get to see, and appreciate the result.
Flowers don't grow overnight and if they did, where would the joy be in that?
JUST CAUSE YOU CAN'T DOESN'T MEAN YOU NEVER WILL
Just because you can't run a mile now doesn't mean someday you won't run a marathon.
Just because you don't have any friends now doesn't mean one day you won't have people that know you better than you know yourself.
Just because you can't recite the Krebs cycle from pure memory now doesn't mean someday you won't be a doctor that saves lives on the daily.
Just because I can't write a blog post doesn't mean one day I won't have a website full of hundreds of entries.
Everyone and everything must start somewhere. That fact doesn't exclude you it includes you. Just because you can't do something doesn't mean you never will. Good things take both time and patience.
LET IT GO AND LET IT GROW
At a certain point you have to understand that you are not the one in control. That might sound terrifying, but in reality, it's freeing. When you focus on what you can control and let God do the rest you'll find an exciting life full of possibility. Let it go and let it grow.
Whatever it is you are waiting for I want you to be encouraged by these truths. When you know the truth, you can react and adapt to whatever life brings your way.
Waiting to hear back from college admissions...LET IT GO AND LET IT GROW
Waiting for fruitful friendships...FLOWERS DON'T GROW OVERNIGHT
Waiting for your server to bring out your food...FLOWERS DON'T GROW OVERNIGHT
Waiting for a relationship....JUST BECAUSE YOU CAN'T DOESN'T MEAN YOU NEVER WILL
Waiting for certainty on a career path...LET IT GO AND LET IT GROW
Waiting for someone to apologize...FLOWERS DON'T GROW OVERNIGHT
Waiting to feel understood...JUST CAUSE YOU CAN'T DOESN'T MEAN YOU NEVER WILL
Waiting can feel endless but it is never wasted. Growth is happening even when you can't see it. Trust the process, lean into patience, and remember that God is great at his job.
